Jan Šabart

Jan Šabart was born in 1958 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He completed his Master’s degree in Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague in 1983.

His first professional experience was in the Design and Construction Institute of Prague from 1984 till 1990. He was a member of a development studio with a focus on housing and convenient building systems. Between 1986 and 1990, he worked as a part-time tutor at the Czech Technical University in Prague, where he was teaching typological subjects and Architectural Engineering.

After 1989 he started building his own architectural practice under the brand of architectural studio Š A B – A R T, which is still in operation today. The studio focuses on various building projects for housing, accommodation, offices, and objects for trade and services, while also undertaking some interior design projects, requirements for permitting processes, and on-site construction supervision.

After the stabilization of his architectural practice, Jan Šabart returned to additional pedagogical activity. Today, he works as an external professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University (CTU). At the same time, he continues his teaching at the Department of Architecture in Architectural Design for more than ten years now.


Lenka Popelová
Architect and Associate Professor at the Czech Technical University (CTU) - Department of Architecture, Prague, Czech Republic

Lenka Popelová was born in 1976 and is an architect and historian of architecture.

She graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague. Since 2003, she has been a researcher at the Research Center for Industrial Heritage at the university. She is also an Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture. Since 2019, she has been Chair of the Doctoral Program Industrial Heritage at the Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague.

Her area of research is Contemporary Architectural History and Theory, with a focus on industrial heritage and preservation of contemporary architecture.

Lenka Popelová has published many articles and books during her career, and she is also active as a photographer (lenkapopelova.webnode.cz).


Luboš Knytl
Architect and Professor at the Czech Technical University (CTU) - Faculty of Civil Engineering, Department of Architecture, Prague, Czech Republic

Born on July 13, 1959, in Prague, Czech Republic, Luboš Knytl completed his studies in 1983 at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague, where he received the Hlavka Foundation Award for his diploma project.

From 1984 to 1992, he worked at the Department of Theory and Development of Architecture. In 1988, he spent a six-month internship at the School of Architecture in Nancy, France. In the years 1991 - 2019, together with M. Perlík, he also managed his own architectural office. He is a co-author of a number of civil and residential buildings and interiors, some of which were published in collective publications in the Czech Republic or awarded national prizes.

In 2002, he started teaching again at the university, this time at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague, and in 2015 he received his habilitation there. He lectures on the typology of buildings, leads student projects and bachelor's and master's theses. He is a member of the professional council of the Study Program Architecture and Civil Engineering. In private architectural practice, he continues to focus on smaller projects.


Marco Maio
Architect and Professor at the Czech Technical University (CTU) - Department of Architecture, Prague, Czech Republic

Marco Maio is a Portuguese architect based in the Czech Republic. His main activities and responsibilities are divided into the professional practice in his studio in Prague, the architectural design teaching at CTU, the production of his own designs, publishing, and foreign business relations, mainly in the EMEA region.

Marco Maio was born in Guarda, Portugal. He studied Architecture at the Coimbra University in Portugal and the Architecture Faculty at Politecnico di Torino, Italy. In 2005 he collaborated with the Portuguese Chamber of Architects on the Research program IAPXX – 20th Century of Portuguese Architecture. In 2006 he became licensed as an Architect by the Portuguese Chamber of Architects whilst working in Porto and Prague with Jiran Kohout Architects, where he has been working as an architect since 2008. He has been working on projects in the Czech Republic, Iraq, Egypt, Sudan, Kazakhstan, Portugal, and Angola.

Seeking new challenges, Marco was a co-founder of the atelier UNIT Architekti in Prague. In 2014 he co-authored the book "Jasan Burin Architect: Certainties and doubts" with Zlatý řez. During the year 2015, he joined the roll-out Management Team for the Worldwide SKODA showroom rebranding process – reconstruction and construction of more than 3000 buildings all-over the world. Since 2017, he has established Marco Maio Architects, his own architectural studio based in Prague.
