ISTANBUL, TURKEY (August 28, 2018) — Steven Holl’s Lewis Arts Complex at Princeton University, Thomas Heatherwick’s Grain Silo Art Gallery, Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp’s EY Centre, Nordic—Office of Architecture’s Oslo Airport Expansion, SPEECH ’s Luzhniki Stadium, Tabanlıoğlu Architects’ Astana Train Station, Grimshaw and Crone Architects’ 333 George Street, AREP’s Lorient Bretagne-Sud Railway Station, C.F. Møller Architects’ Maersk Tower: Extension of The Panum Complex at the University of Copenhagen, HASSELL’s Huangpu East Bank Urban Forest, and Safdie Architects’ Sky Habitat top the list of awarded buildings for The International Architecture Awards® for 2018.

Founded in 2005, The International Architecture Awards, organized by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, is the oldest, annual public celebration of global architecture that sees practices around the world compete for the title of Global Building of the Year.

The International Architecture Awards are the only non-commercial, global, and public awards program given jointly by two not-for-profit Museums in the United States and Europe dedicated to public education concerning architecture and industrial design.

The Awards are regarded internationally as a mark of excellence, recognizing the best global architecture practices, as well as the corporate clients, developers, state and local governments, institutions, general contractors that produced them.“Following a rigorous process from over 1,000 submissions, this year’s 2018 shortlist of 380 projects,” states Christian Narkiewicz-Laine, Museum President, The Chicago Athenaeum, “shows the power and payback of investing in quality architecture, illustrating perfectly how well-designed buildings are worth every penny and can exceed the expectations of the community they serve.”

“The projects on the shortlist were judged against a range of criteria including design vision; innovation and originality; capacity to stimulate, engage and delight occupants and visitors; accessibility and sustainability; how fit the building is for its purpose and the level of client satisfaction."

“The Museum champions better buildings, communities, and the environment through which architecture can flourish. Our awards schemes provide one of the most powerful ways of promoting architecture and the work of our members to the public."

"I am delighted with this year’s selection which shows a great variety of imagination and ingenuity,” add Narkiewicz-Laine

This year’s selected buildings are from 31 nations including: Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Malaysia, México, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Qatar, Republic of Singapore, Sri Lanka, Russia, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Vietnam, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and The United States.

“These 100 plus buildings are what the best, new architecture looks like today,” continues Narkiewicz-Laine.
