MJARC arquitectos lda – Portugal
Maria João Andrade graduated at Oporto in 2005. She created MJARC Architecture Studio based in Porto (Portugal), in 2006, along with Ricardo Cordeiro. The practice's architecture doesn't follow a stabilized language, seeking new approaches to each project. Its projects have a global scope, providing solutions to contemporary architectural and urban issues, searching for new paths to organize and assimilate an idea with the functional and programmatic essence of construction. Highly collaborative, research-based design method involves clients, and experts from a wide range of fields from early on, in the creative process.
As an nZEB Designer, Maria João Andrade and her partner Ricardo Cordeiro are aware of the importance of the architect's work in designing sustainable buildings, not only in the way that each building adapts itself to the site but considering the Everlast footprint on the environment in terms of the development of the construction and use. In each project, this dictates a new approach; the idea of innovation moves them.
The future is always hard to predict, but there will certainly be a return to the local, to the sustainable architecture made of small but solid impulses from what's closer to us after this pandemic.
