The Municipality of the city of Treviso, following the contribution of the Italian Ministry of Culture, entrusted the team with the design for the reconstruction of the medieval apse of the Church-Museum of St. Catherine, part of a Monastery that was totally destroyed by the war events of World War II in 1944/45. The new load-bearing masonry retraces and grazes, in a suspended manner, the ancient track of the medieval foundations dating back to 1354. The 15-meter-high volume of the tetradecagonal building is a sort of shell that skims and reconnects to the existing ecclesiastical body by means of a transparent glass that runs around its entire perimeter, allowing light to enter from above and from all cardinal points. This choice was considered the most suitable for the museum exhibitions. The realization of the work brought back to its origin enables a complete view of the deep axiality of the monumental interior. Work began with archaeological investigations in May 2020 and is scheduled for completion in March 2023.
