Inspired by one of Kyoto’s most important sanctuaries, FUSHIMI reveals its meek, evocative character at a glance, exuding harmony in the combination of its parts and stylishness in its details. Fascinated by spiritual Japanese culture, Philippe Tabet has endeavoured to capture its essence and hold on to that concept of balance and lightness that the culture is known for.
Pared back, elegant and clean, the frame’s lines come together in an inviting bed that is simple yet refined. The absence of sharp corners and the beautifully milled and turned solid ash wood conjure up an idea of relaxation and delicate tactility.
The proportion between the thickness of the frame and length of the elements is fine-tuned and balanced to perfection with the curvature of the corners. The rear part, which supports the upholstered headboard, is reminiscent of a temple frame and runs along an inclined axis, which emphasizes the profile and beauty of the piece, making FUSHIMI particularly suitable as a standalone bed positioned at will away from the wall.
High and invitingly comfortable, the padded headboard features a cut detail down the middle, creating a conceptual boundary line between the two halves of the double bed. It can be upholstered in fabric, leather or imitation leather, choosing from the PIANCA collection’s extensive range. The bed base, comprising sprung beech plywood slats, also has a padded and upholstered surround.
Another feature of the FUSHIMI bed is the option of slotting side trays directly onto the bed frame to serve as practical little bedside tables.
