The project is part of an urban composition. It belongs both to the heterogeneous and emblematic district of Gerland and to a "îlot jardin"; a large-scale urban form essentially made up of housing articulated around a vast collective green space. The main vocation of this "îlot jardin" is to create social links, relationships between social groups to provoke meetings. This conception of "living together" has led us to propose a coherent architecture that allows the affirmation of a form of belonging and familiarity.
The design's approach to the project's materiality directly echoes the contrasting nature of the landscape in which it is part, industrial and vegetal. Through its sobriety, its constructive rigor, and its rational volumes, the project fits coherently into this new urban composition. The team has favored the use of a durable material, white concrete, which worked in two ways: smooth and sanded.
