Surrounded by mountains, forests, fields, and ancient coastal remnants, the plan draws its inspiration from the natural extensions around the site. We explore how coastline, culture, landscape and architecture intertwine to create a one of the vibrant tourist destination along the round the island tourism.
Reviving Danzhou: Weaving Heritage and Climate into Architectural Narrative
As a cultural hub in Hainan, Danzhou engages in a dialogue with history while creating architecture oriented toward the future. Transforming Hainan's year-round weather into dreamlike scenes, using time as the script and solar terms as the backdrop, it unfolds a 'time container' that carries cultural memories. Utilizing sound, light, wind, rain, and dew as mediums, it reenacts Danzhou's ceremonial and musical culture in architectural clusters. Along the diagonal, various cultural symbols converge during exploration. The landscape, akin to earth sculptures, coexists harmoniously with geometric architecture, transcending boundaries to merge with the horizon.
Danzhou is a region abundant in cultural heritage and natural beauty, with its coastline significantly influencing local identity and community life in history. Our architectural framework is designed to honor this unique context and foster a deeper connection between the environment and its inhabitants.
We are captivated by Danzhou's local culture, including traditional melodies, salt farming, and dragon boat racing. Reviving these traditions and educating future generations are crucial for revitalization.
Our design reflects the region's rich history through cultural symbols. The master plan features axes, visual corridors, and public spaces, proposing five pioneering architectural projects to catalyze future growth while honoring Danzhou's heritage.
Harmonizing Architecture with Natural Surroundings and Indigenous Village Fabric
Design and create connections with natural forests, making architecture a natural part of nature. The integration of earth landscape and earth sheltered architecture, dialogue with mountains and forests, and dialogue with the ocean.
Along the diagonal, various cultural symbols meet in exploration, forming the overall framework of the plan. we examined the indigenous village fabric present on the island. The design disperses the required functions of the site in a clustered pattern within geometric individual buildings, creating a dialogue with the layout and scale of the village.
This approach not only honors traditional patterns but also encourages a dialogue between the natural landscape and human architecture, fostering a harmonious environment.
Fully consider the locality of the architecture, integrate it with the local fields, soil and rainwater, and form a architecture earth art. The local landscape clusters coexist with the rhythm of geometric architecture. This is the intersection of nature and culture, blurring boundaries, connecting with the surroundings, blending into the sky, and conveying gratitude towards nature.
Journey Through Time Chapel
Slowly step into the entrance square, follow the diagonal path, cross the underground corridor, and arrive at the auditorium. The core performance hall, with its dome shaping a sacred celebration venue, and its cavity serving as a space for popular science and culture.
The diagonal line organizes the order and harmony of the ritual space. Eight lights and seven halos fell in the center of the venue, resonating sound waves rose in circles and eventually solidified into buildings. The auditorium integrates cultural symbols, venue relationships, and time and space from multiple perspectives, creating a unique 'time container'.
The presence of the auditorium in the venue echoes the existence of Dan'er Mountain in Danzhou, representing a timeless independence. Under the halo dome, there is a sacred and ceremonial celebration venue, including an auditorium and an unbounded music theater, a viewing platform, a Seven Halo stand, an ocean exploration museum, a teahouse.
Here, the free transformation of scale reveals a new world, and the creation of a diagonal adventure story injects new vitality into the cultural traditions of Danzhou.
