Manufacturer: Purewine Inc., Grapevine, Texas, USA

In 2017, PureWine launched their first product, setting out to make wine accessible to those who suffer from headaches, stuffy nose, and allergic side effects. While other wine purifiers only remove sulfites, PureWine developed a patented filtration system which removes both sulfites and histamines - the causes of most adverse reactions - without affecting the flavor of the wine, and without adding any harsh chemicals to the wine.

Armed with this technology and the success of their past products, PureWine sought to create a sustainable whole-bottle filtration solution in the form of a reusable, pod-based filtration device. These efforts resulted in the launch of The Phoenix in 2021, an aerator and filter all in one. At the heart of The Phoenix system are Bio-Pods, replaceable cartridges that can each filter one full bottle of wine. The Bio-Pod shell and lid fabric are made from a thermoplastic biodegradable polymer resin. After the Bio-Pod is used, it can be emptied of its filtering beads and is fully biodegradable, breaking down in roughly six months.

To use The Phoenix, consumers first load it with a Bio-Pod and then mount The Phoenix securely to the top of the wine bottle. As the wine is poured, it passes through the Bio-Pod and is filtered of headache-causing compounds, while being aerated for enhanced flavor. The Phoenix comes in three finishes – matte black, white, and rose gold – ensuring that it fits aesthetically in any kitchen. The pouring spout’s sharp tip is shaped to minimize drips after pouring. Its diamond profile transitions smoothly to a circular form that matches the wine bottle’s neck.
