Istanbul Land Walls City Park - Topkapı / İstanbul, Turkey
House No.2 is one of the research projects about the city houses. The project is the effect of the condition of the contemporary polish society, which the privacy is safety is the highest need. The solution was to isolate a building, avoiding dialogue between interior and exterior. The private space defining the home begins within its white walls.
The plan of the designed house is based on the square with two internal patios, around which whole function was planned. Slight withdrawal of the garage wall allows finding hidden entrance which is placed exactly in the middle of the house. This entrance patio is visible from each part of the house, even from the bedrooms.
The skylight on the top of the entrance patio allows the sunlight illuminate entrance. Natural light is reflected off the white walls. The second patio separates the day zone of the house from the small office room. This void collect light from above.
The patios are totally glazed, so from each part of the house, the view spreads on the patio, other house’s spaces and the garden. Day space also opens to the garden. The home’s white plastered concrete walls make it an object on an architectural scale. The strongest accent is the street façade which is totally closed form. Such kind of solution gives its residents a sense of intimacy and security.
