Dominic's House- Ewelina Jaskulska - Poland

Weimar, Germany

The humanistic dimension of the architecture is the overriding priority in reference to a man. The aim was a small house on allotment garden designed universally as well as environmentally friendly.
Dominic is the character from a children’s story by Przemyslaw Liput “A year in the preschool”.

Dominic is a preschool child. He moves around in a wheelchair. Limited by his physicality, he is not able to fully use a kids space. The purpose of Dominik’s house is to show that a good space is one that is available for everyone, without stigmatizing people with limited mobility. The architecture of the house was based on a square form from which the fourth part was removed creating the garden. Greenery thus becomes an integrative element shaping the exterior form and the interior. Four functional zones interact with one another to form a coherent whole.

The communication path running from the entrance to the garden and from the house up to the exit, closes the inner space, at the same time leading to the garden, which becomes another “room”.

The versatility of the house comes from the freedom of arrangement of the space where the house is to be placed. While embedded in the terrain it covers the half of the plot. Elevated above it releases 1OO% of the plot for nature.

Horizontally, the freedom of arrangement of the house makes it possible to create small communities with the garden in the center as well as can give more privacy when turned.
