Project Description
The gymnasium is for children. It must be above all perennial, bright and warm. The raw concrete mass is full, the light is zenithal. The interior wood responds to the facade texture. A wide landscaped courtyard marks the entrance "under the volume" of concrete, by a cantilever of 18m x 13m. The skin is textured wood by natural fir planks used at the bottom of the formwork during the pouring of the concrete, and the variations of hue of the concrete are given by the tannin of the woods. The high mass of the great hall plays with the low mass of the locker rooms, and the facades seem in motion by an inclination effect. Inside, like a jewel case, the project is warm and luminous. Large stained glass roofs ensure a dingy and diffuse lighting of all spaces, avoiding glare for sportsmen. The ceilings and walls are in natural wood, with black acoustic felt. The room thus offers a high performance acoustic and allows a variety of uses.
