The site is adjacent to the new Yanqing District in Beijing to the east, closely neighbouring the Guanting Reservoir and Yeya Lake (Wild Duck Lake) Wetland Nature Reserve Area to the west, and laying astride Guishui River.
At the transition zone between a protected natural reserve and an urban area, the site faces two main challenges: reforming the green buffer between urban and natural areas, and increasing the life quality of local residents.
The 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Expo is a significant opportunity to fulfill these objectives. The team aims to create a resilient green infrastructure system through comprehensive planning and design.
Thorough analyses and assessments to the existing environment will recreate a natural landscape structure, and the rearrangement of local green horti-industries will introduce a new life style to residents, in order to bring sustained benefits to both the nature and people within and surrounding the site.
