Genesis GV80 Concept 2017
Designers: Hyundai Design, Hyundai Motor Corporation, Irvine, California, USA
Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor Corporation, Irvine, California, USA

At this year’s New York International Auto Show, Genesis, a new luxury car brand, unveiled its progressive GV80 Concept SUV to show its design direction for the fastest-growing segment in the industry. As the brand continues its launch and seeks to embody the modern concept of luxury, the vehicle is Genesis’ first interpretation of a versatile luxury SUV, revealing precision details and a confidently evolved design language that provides subtle glimpses into the bold future of Genesis’ design and product development.

The exterior of the GV80 presents an elegant interpretation of a sport utility vehicle, defined by exceptional materials and purposeful forms to create a feeling of desire. The car’s overall shape is characterized by a long hood and dash-to-axle ratio, visualizing the performance-oriented layout and its resulting athletic stance. The prominent, upright crest grille that is Genesis’ signature is visually supported by sleek, horizontal headlamps.

For the interior, the emphasis is uncompromised integration of technology in a luxury environment, including a wide 22-inch curved display set in the instrument panel cascades into the driver’s cluster, which combines the precision of a classic speedometer with the immersive flow of information from a digital display. Superior craftsmanship and attention to detail are also highlighted with side pillars constructed with a structural truss design viewable from inside and outside the vehicle.

From a technological perspective, the car boasts an innovative Human Machine Interface that offers users intuitive operation and function control through the use of a new multi-function interactive controller with capacitive touch. All of this technology is seamlessly blended into the precision designed details of the vehicle. The top of the interactive multi-function controller features a concave gorilla glass touchpad and knurled metal wheel with handwriting recognition as another method for interacting with the informational panel. Through touch control, each metal string allows direct access to the most commonly used functions including Navigation, Entertainment, Communication, and Environment (or customized driver settings). By tapping these metal strings, passengers gain separate control of a mini-view on the right side of the wide display without disturbing the driver.

Much like the overall Genesis brand, the GV80 defies convention by blending the aspirational with the experiential to create a vehicle that signals progress. As form follows function, so does the GV80 concepts innovative design follow the future drivers evolved sense of luxury.
