Project Description
A building with a central covered courtyard is proposed as intermediate protected space, for lighting and ventilation, which gives access to the apartments and organizes the Day Center for the elderly. The clear turning over willingness of the building with 3 facades and its location as the finishing of a built-up crown of this singular urban block is reinforced with facades of unitary character both in their different orientations and programmatic diversity at different levels.
Relationships between solid and void, horizontal and vertical, light and shade, give the facade rhythm and domestic character. The building is clearly based on the ground and aligns with the adjacent building to finishing this half open urban block of the Eixample in Barcelona. The proposal is aiming for a passive design using conventional systems and taking full advantage of the local climate, such as a covered semi-conditioned central courtyard with vegetation, cross ventilation for homes with covered terraces and excellent façade insulation.
