Agnès Chryssostalis/ Agnès Guillemin - France

Agnès Guillemin and Agnès Chryssostalis share the same name and the same formation: Architecture Schoolof Paris-La Seine. They discover complementary, sharing the same sensitivity that forges their duo. After school, they continue their journey in Parisian offices, separately this time: a practical apprenticeship in teamwork, an economic and programmatic synthesis of the projects on which they work. But the envy has just developed a vocabulary of its own. A choice that led them to create in 2005 their own workshop : Agnès & Agnès architecture. Design “from the inside out”, use by touches of color, sensitivity for the interiority and vision of any “object” as a small architecture - they also create a furniture design unit. Gradually the agency turns to public places (with several restaurants, hotels and shops) and then the public commands: the contact with different contractors - from the individual to the single control to the large-scale developer - develops their capacity to adapt to a wide range of demands and budgets. The agency draws from these multiple experiences to renew its models and methods, always with the motto of continuity between the interior and exterior spaces, the quality of use of the places of life and the reversibility of the solutions proposed.

Project Description

Investing in the old treasurer's house to transform it into a cultural place is a challenge in every respect. This historic site must at the same time preserve its strong architectural presence but also become an attractive place for the Rémois and the tourists. Our main objective in the context of the scenography and positioning in the City was to create a strong identity that is deployed in the building by furniture (mobile or not), strong exterior signage and a graphic visual identity that takes up the principle of setting up the scenography. In the building we wanted, to meet a demand for modularity in time, to create furniture as much as possible movable, adjustable, interchangeable and modular: cubic elements of different heights and able to serve different functions. This makes it possible both to meet a necessity of presenting in the "place info culture" and of exhibition in the part "museum". Moreover, to meet a need for display, vertical panels are installed under and around the loopholes present in the place in order to highlight their particularities and architectural quality. This image of dissemination resumes the idea that the cultural gems of Reims are scattered to the four corners of the city and that this space therefore becomes its representative essence. The choice of colors - black and gold - resumes both the sobriety of the rehabilitation of the place by the services of the City (exterior joinery, fences ...) through black, but also gold in order to subtly arise Tthe image of the treasure that can represent all the buildings and specific and magnificent places of the City
